The Calhoun Freshmen Black football team defeated the Calallen Wildcats’ Freshmen team by a score of 35 to 28 on Thursday night in Calallen. The Wildcats methodical running game controlled the clock for the entire first quarter and most of the second quarter as the Wildcats took an 8-6 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Crabs offense exploded as Jacob Laughlin, Esteban Cruz, Zach Ramirez and Kirk Stringham all found the endzone while Diego Ledezma was successful on his PAT tries. The Crabs rolled up 432 yards of offense on approximately 20 touches of the football (over 20 yards per play average). After falling behind by 2 scores, the Wildcats slowly and methodically tried to claw their way back into the game and scored a touchdown with about a minute remaining to close to within 1 score. The Sandcrabs recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock to claim the victory. The Freshmen Black finish the year with a 7-3 record and finished 2nd in district play.
