The Calhoun Freshmen Black football team dropped a hard fought decision to the Gregory-Portland Wildcats, 15 to 13 on Thursday night at Sandcrab Stadium. The Crabs started the first half well, stifling the Wildcats offense with 2 interceptions and scoring 2 touchdowns (1 made PAT and 1 missed PAT) to take a 13-0 lead into halftime. The Crabs drove the opening kickoff of the second half to the Wildcats 3 yard where a fumble by the Crabs gave the Wildcats new life. G-P was able to score to cut the Crabs lead to 13-7. With less than 3 minutes to go in the game, another Crab turnover gave the ball to the Wildcats on the Sandcrab 5 yard line. The Wildcats capitalized on the Crabs mistake with a touchdown to tie the game 13-13. Gregory Portland opted to go for the two point conversion and was successful on their attempt to make the score 15-13 G-P. The Crabs received the ball with about a minute remaining on the clock, but were unable to advance the ball the length of the field in the short amount of time. The Calhoun Black Freshmen Record now stands at 2-2 with their next game against the Alice Coyotes in Alice on Thursday.
